Horse-back riding tour Kochkor – Son-Kul

Description:  This tour is going to give you the possibility to enjoy the amazing beauty of Central Tien-Shan mountains, to see one of the most magnificent mountain lakes, to indulge in your hobby of horse-back riding, and last but not least, to get acquainted with the ancient culture of Kyrgyz nomads, that is still alive today in their Djailoos (summer alpine pastures) where you will be welcomed with warmest hospitality and invited for everything they have in their yurts (Kyrgyz national dwelling).

Itinerary: Bishkek – Kochkor – SaralaSaz – AkBel – Sook – KoldoSuu – Utor – SonKul – Kyzyl-Oi - Bishkek

Day 1: Bishkek. Arrival in Bishkek. Transfer to the Guest House**, rest and then breakfast. Sightseeing tour city (the bazaar, the central square Ala-Too with the Historical Museum). Lunch. Free time. Dinner at the restaurant. O/N at the GH.

Day 2: Bishkek - Kochkor. (ca.240km). After breakfast drive to Kochkor. On the way, visit Burana tower (X-XII). Lunch in a small restaurant. Accommodation at CBT home stays in Kochkor. In the evening felt carpet making show. Dinner. Overnight in home stays.

Day 3: Kochkor – SaralaSaz – AkBel (ca. 60 km). After breakfast (about 09:00) we go to Djailoo SaralaSaz by car (app. 1   hour). There we meet the family that is lending us their horses for the trip. Start of our horse-back riding trip. We leave at about 11:00, riding over alpine meadows where you see a lot of different yurts. We arrive at Djailoo Ak-Bel in the afternoon (about 4 hours).We are awaited by the family with kymyz, the national drink made from fermented mares milk. Dinner. Overnight in the yurt.

Day 4: AkBel – pass Buchuk – Sook (5-6 hours riding). We leave the Djailoo at about 08:00 after breakfast. We go down to the valley Irizuu over some hills. We start our way up the mountain to reach Buchuk. Lunch. Then we go up to Djailoo Cook, which is situated on a place of breathtaking beauty. At the Djailoo, we have tea as usual and a traditional dinner. Overnight in the yurt.

Day 5: Sook – pass KuchBel – Koldosuu (5-6 hours riding).  Breakfast. We start at about 09:00 to conquer the pass Kuch Bel. A bit further up, we have a perfect view on the surrounding snow-covered mountain ranges and some neighboring valleys. From there on, we start to get up to the pass. We plan to go down by a gorge produced by a small mountain river. After the descent, we have a rest on a small elevation on the slope, where there are some rocks in the back. Pick nick. In the afternoon, we arrive to Djailoo Koldosuu, where the family awaits us with dinner. Overnight in the yurt.

Day 6: Koldosuu – pass KyzylKia – Utor (5-6 hours riding). We get up at about 08:00 and after breakfast start to cross some hills (and also the border between Kochkor and Naryn region) to arrive at the Djailoo KyzylKia, where we have lunch with a charming family. Afterwards, we cross the pass KyzylKia (2600m) and stay at the Djailoo Utor, which is situated in alpine meadows with the most beautiful mountain flowers you could imagine. This day is a shorter one, with only about 3 – 4 hours on horse, so it will give you some time to rest on the Djailoo and to recollect your energies. Dinner and overnight in the yurt.

Day 7: Utor – Kilemche – SonKul (5-6 hors riding). We start our trek at about 08:00. We go over some hills and small passes to Djailoo Kilemche. On the way, you will see a variety of mountain gorges. At the Djailoo Kilemche, we have to cross a river, and then start our way up to our last mountain pass. On the way, we have lunch on a beautiful pasture, and some rest. On the top, you can catch the first view of SonKul (3016m), of its waters between green hills. We can have a rest in a yurt and some tea and a snack. In the late afternoon, we do the last part of our tour to the final yurt further to the east of the lake. Dinner. Overnight in the yurt.

Day 8: SonKul. Free day at the lake. This day is a relaxing one.

Day 9: Son-Kul – Kyzyl-Oi (ca. 200 km). After breakfast drive to Kyzyl-Oi village (200 km). The village is situated in the picturesque narrow gorge of Kokomeren river (1800m above sea level). Here you can see the real life of rural people. The village has hardly changed since mid of the last century.  Accommodation in CBT home stay.

Day 10: Kyzyl-Oi – Bishkek (ca.200 km). After breakfast drive to Bishkek via Tju – Ashuu tunnel. Lunch on the way. Arrival in Bishkek. Accommodation in the hotel. Dinner at the restaurant, folklore show.

Day 11: Departure. Transfer to the airport.

Day 9: Son-Kul – Issyk-Kul (ca.260 km). After breakfast drive to Issyk-Kul (northern coast). Accommodation in a hotel.

Day 10: Isyk-Kul – Bishkek (ca.260 km). After breakfast drive to Bishkek. Accommodation in the hotel. Dinner.

Day 11: Departure. Transfer to the airport.
